Lawyer, former Marine, and Oglala Sioux tribal leader Ed McGaa shares his hope that modern culture can coexist with the Earth rather than dominating her. McGaa expresses the need for a restructuring of society, and utilizes traditional symbols from Sioux teachings to illustrate his points. As different animals (and, in at least one case, a tree) represent particular human attributes or behavior in the Native American tradition, McGaa uses them here to symbolize the problems of society and to teach a way to heal these ailments.
