The Narrows

This gritty World War II fantasy is set in an alternate Detroit where magic coexists with science. When Jared was a child, he and his father had a fateful encounter with the Nain Rouge, a dwarf with burning eyes whose presence presages ill fortune. The resulting car accident injured two fingers on Jared`s hand, making him ineligible to fight in World War II, a fact that causes him no small pain. Instead, he supports the war effort by working in a secret golem-manufacturing facility housed in a Ford factory. As Jared struggles with his feelings of inadequacy, a crumbling marriage, and the dangerous politics at work on the factory floor, he realizes that the Nain Rouge is not yet finished with him.
